Alma Dilbeck Obituary

Alma Jean Dilbeck passed away peacefully on November 5, 2022 at the age of 97. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born in Pulare, OK January 20, 1925.  She was the youngest child of David and Essa Mae Lay.  Her mother died when she was only 3 years old.  She was raised by her dad and her older sisters in her early childhood around Prairie View.  Most of her childhood she lived with her dad in a room in the back of a country store.

Alma met Paul Guy Dilbeck shortly after she graduated high school and was so impressed with his large and fun family.  They married August 17, 1944. After farming for several years, they made their home in Wynona, OK where they raised their family.

She accepted Christ as her Savior when she was 22 years old. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wynona.  On the church’s 100th anniversary, she was presented a certificate by the Historical Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma for being the eldest and longest-standing member.  She served in the church in many capacities but most enjoyed teaching women.

Alma’s oldest grandchild was first to call her Mammie almost 59 years ago and the name stuck. Not only was she called Mammie by family, but she grew to be affectionately called Mammie by many others.

She was a content and loving homemaker but also served as Wynona’s city treasurer, was a cook at Wynona school and clerked at J.R.’s Grocery. She was a compassionate listener and a fervent prayer warrior.  She was always up early with coffee on and ready for the many that often came by for visiting and prayer. She was known for her hospitality. You never left her home hungry. Her most requested dishes were chicken and dumplings, homemade biscuits and gravy and fried pies.

Alma is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dilbeck, her parents, David and Essa

Lay, her siblings, Claud Lay, Gladys Snipp and Sybill Rapp, Daughter-in-law, Kim Dilbeck and great great grandson, Ford Ellis Dilbeck.

She is survived by her 4 children, Dale (Janis), Randy, Roger (Suzanne) and Beth
