Irene Castle West Renfroe was born April 5, 1927 on the family farm to Alvin
Grover West and Prudie Elma White West in Talala, Oklahoma. Irene was called
home to the Lord Saturday February 25, 2023.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Prudie West, 4 brothers Alvin
West Jr., Amos West, Jack West and Tuxie West, and 1 daughter Karen Renfroe.
Irene is survived by her son Gary Renfroe (Cindy) of Florida, sister Peggy
Branstetter of Oklahoma, grandchildren Mindy Temple (Patrick) of Arkansas, Gary
Renfroe Jr., (Amber) of California, and Rachel Renfroe of California, great
grandchildren Amanda Griffin (Asher), Rachel Evens (Brady), Elizabeth Ponder
(Justin), Cody Temple and Jazzy Temple all of Arkansas, great-great grandchildren
Emma Griffin, Harper Griffin, Delta Welch and Talon Griffin.
Irene was 1 of 13 graduates from Talala High School in the class of 1945. She
worked in Medical Records at Pawhuska Hospital where she would later be
promoted to Director. Upon her retirement she worked part time at a dress shop
in downtown Pawhuska. She loved to model all the clothing. Irene always
dressed to impress.
She was an avid gardener who loved growing tomatoes and strawberries. She
tended to her yard and all her flowers. She took great pride in her yard, which has
been published in the Pawhuska newspaper for all its beauty. In addition to her
love of gardening, she loved to travel and saw many beautiful places in her life.
Irene was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
The first time she met the new Pastor Justin Turney, she introduced herself as the
oldest member of the church, and the prettiest, which was a fine example of her
sense of humor.
Graveside services will be held February 28, 2023, 1:00PM, at the Fairview Cemetery in Talala, Oklahoma under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Justin Turney of First Baptist Church of Pawhuska officiating.
