Joe D. Kirchner was born July 4, 1947 in Pawhuska, OK, and passed January 14, 2022 in Yukon, OK, at the age of 74. He was the oldest of three children of Joe H. and Gertrude Kirchner. Joe graduated from Sedan (KS) High School in 1965.

Joe met Janet Brownlee in Winfield, KS and they were married May 10, 1970. In his early days Joe was a cowboy at area ranches, was an over the road truck driver and worked as a road grader for Osage County. He then became a fireman for Bartlesville Fire Department and retired with the rank of Captain. At the time of his death, Joe and his brother, Bob, owned and operated the family ranch in northern Osage County. He was also the Fire Chief for Boulanger Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by daughter Jody, son-in-law Paul Buckner and grandson Chase of Claremore, OK; brother Bob Kirchner and wife June of Pawhuska, OK; sister Mary Lou Farnsworth and husband Mark of Ponca City, OK; his beloved dogs Rowdy and Maggie; brother-in-law Larry Brownlee and wife Sue of Garden City, KS; sister-in-law Jean Sporleder and husband Roger of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law Joyce Trettenero and husband Jim of Great Bend, KS; sister-in-law Chris Smith and husband Richard of Pierceville, KS; brother-in-law Jim Brownlee and wife Shirley of Wichita, KS; and many more family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jan Kirchner, his son Travis Kirchner, grandson Ty Kirchner, parents Joe H. and Gertrude Kirchner and parents-in-law Glen and Mary Brownlee.

Joe loved to talk to people and was generous with his time and knowledge on a great many subjects. He was a hunter and outdoorsman, and he could fix or build anything. He loved old west history, outlaw lore, his dozer and Gunsmoke. He was the patriarch of the family, a husband, a father, a brother, a teacher and a friend.

A service will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 at 10:00am at Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska, OK.
