Luther LaRoy Renfrow Obituary

This world was blessed with Luther LaRoy Renfrow when he was born on June 30, 1939.  His parents, Luther and Ida Mae Renfrow welcomed him at their home in rural Avant, Oklahoma.  Roy left his earthly home to spend eternity in his forever home on December 21, 2023.  Roy spent much of his preschool years with his paternal grandparents, Sherwood and Minnie Renfrow, who adored him.  The family moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Roy began school there.  Later, the family moved to the Pawhuska area where he graduated from high school in 1958.

Roy proudly served his country by entering the Army in February 1963.  He went to military police training in Fort Gordon, GA.  Then he spent eighteen months in Germany before returning home to continue serving in the National Guard for two years.  It was February 19, 1967, at his last guard drill, that he met the love of his life, Sheryl Stierwalt.  She couldn’t resist this man in military uniform.  They married four months later on June 18, 1967, and shared fifty-six years, six months, and two days of life together.  Three sons were born to this marriage – Eric (Jennifer) Renfrow, of Bartlesville, OK; Greg Renfrow (Tracy) of Wynona, OK; and Jeff (Elaine) Renfrow of Prosper, TX.  Roy is survived by his devoted and forever loving wife, his three sons and wives, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a brother and two sisters, extended family members, and numerous lifelong friends.  Roy’s parents and a brother, James, preceded him in passing on to their forever home.

Roy worked his entire life and excelled in gardening.  He could read the mind of a fish, and they had no chance when he had a rod and reel in his hand.  He worked eighteen years at Reda Pump in Bartlesville, and was a shift supervisor in his last several years.  He then worked years at the Pawhuska Hospital as the maintenance supervisor and retired from there in June of 2004.  Roy was a member of the Pawhuska Nazarene Church, drove the church bus for several years, and never missed a chance to shake everyone’s hand before the worship service every Sunday morning.  On Saturdays, you could find him watching Westerns and Oklahoma football.  Roy will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and grandfather.

A celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 1pm at Pawhuska Nazarene Church at 407 East 8th Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pawhuska Nazarene Church or to the Multiple System Atrophy
