Margaret Gilkey passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in Bartlesville, OK.
Margaret Gilkey was born January 24, 193 in Jenks, OK. She was the second of 12 children from Benjamin Gilkey and Alice Gilkey (Reid). She lived the earliest part of her life in Pawhuska, attending Booker T Washington School. She loved to cook and was a good one. Before leaving Pawhuska, she was employed in housekeeping at the Duncan Hotel. After a few years Margaret decided to move to Arizona to join her father and brothers. They later moved to Arvin, CA where she furthered her career in cooking and raising her daughter for many years before deciding to move back to Pawhuska. She worked as a dietitian at the nursing home for many years and then IGA before retiring. She was a member of the Church of the Living God where her mother was a leader and a teacher. Margaret enjoyed attending church and was a strong believer and doer of the word of God. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Shirley (Miles) Harris of Bakersfield, CA; three sisters Dorothy (Roberson) Gilkey, Francis Gilkey, Eddy Mae Daughtery, of Bartlesville, OK; two brothers Harry (Sylvia) Gilkey and Charles Gilkey of Bakersfield, CA; grandson Darian (Dinan) Greer; granddaughter Porsha Greer of Arvin, CA; great grandson Desmond Greer, two great granddaughters Devin Greer and Dana Greer of Sacramento, CA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, June 10, 1:00PM, at the Church of the Living God, Pawhuska, OK. Pastor Steve Griffin will officiate. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home of Pawhuska in charge of arrangements.
