Mary Carter Obituary

Mary Kathleen Carter, 81 of Pawhuska, passed away in Barnsdall at the Barnsdall nursing home. Mary was born in Pawhuska to Jess and Minnie Elkins Smith "Gra-To-Me" (Hawk-Woman) on 6/13/1941. She attended school at Bird Creek and finished at Indian Camp School. She worked and retired from Osage County as an outreach worker and the site manager of Barnsdall Nutrition Site.  Mary was also a proud member of the Osage Nation.

Mary is preceded in death by Jess and Minnie Smith as well as her sisters Gloria Starr, Teresa Polhamus, and Patricia Schott.

Mary is survived by her children, Greg Carter and wife Beth, Gloria Cooper; grandchildren Arron Zappon, Hayley Hull, Taylor Estrella, Callen Carter, and Addison Carter. She had numerous nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.

Pall Bearers will be Brite Starr, Brite Starr II, Brite Starr III, Russ Mashunkashey, Ross Mashunkashey, and Tim Polhamus.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Barnsdall Nursing Home for outstanding care.

Visitation will be every day till the services at Wakon Iron Chapel

The Funeral Service will be held 8 am on the 22nd day of August at Wakon Iron Chapel with Mongrain Lookout and Jake Bruno officiating. Burial will follow at the Pawhuska Cemetery with Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home making arrangements.
