Mary Helen was born in Aarondale, OK to John Cobb and Lillian Conklin Cobb on June 8, 1931. In 1937, the family moved to the farm and Mary attended McVey School. Beginning her 5th grade year, she attended school at Wynona.  In the summer of her junior year, she went to Shawnee, OK to stay with her sister, Lois Lawrence, where she worked as a waitress at Vann' s BBQ.   She met a young man who drove a taxi cab, Edker Barnett, whom she married. Ed was in the army and served in Korea. To this union, two daughters were born, Karen Lois Barnett and Mary Jean Barnett. After Ed left the service, they lived in different parts of the country where he worked in the oil and gas industry.  While they were living in Cortez, Colorado, Ed became ill, and Mary was widowed in 1958 at the age of 27 with two small children.  She returned to Wynona and later married Uless Martin. They began their life on the farm where Mary remained until her death. The couple had two children, James Uless, Jr. (Jim) and Stephanie. Uless passed away in 1995 and Mary continued to manage her farm with the help of her son.

Mary loved her church, her family and her friends; she was a bit of a home body but enjoyed visits from her much loved children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It brought her joy when the children and grandchildren of her dear neighbors, who kept an eye on and protected her, would stop in and spend time.

In the last few years Mary was joined in her home by a companion, Debra Breshears, who came to help her through an illness and stayed with her. She and Mary enjoyed their pets and feeding hundreds of hummingbirds.  Dear friends, John and Cindy Keaton, were always there to help with anything she needed. Wonderful neighbors and church family filled her life. When Mary adopted you as family it was for keeps.  Her former daughter-in-law, Julie Wooten Martin, remains a dear friend and aunt to her grandchildren.

A true woman of God, she lived her faith every day and led by her wonderful example.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, spouses Ed Barnett and Uless Martin, one infant brother, brothers Pat Cobb and Jack Cobb, sisters Lois Cobb Lawrence, Hazel Cobb Scott, Dorothy Hollowell, son James Uless Martin, Jr. (Jim) as well as much loved nephews and niece.

Mary is survived by her children Karen Betchan and husband, Don, of Perry, OK, Jeanne Votaw and husband, Jim, of Perry, OK, Stephanie Glasgow and husband, Phillip, of McKinney, TX.
