Robert Elmer “Bob” Butts of Oklahoma City and former longtime resident of Pawhuska passed away on January 11, 2023.
Bob was born in Pawhuska on September 8, 1938 to Elmer and Dora Butts. He graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1956. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served for 4 years. When he finished his military commitment, Bob moved to Cherokee, OK to work in the oil fields and do other construction jobs. In 1964, he went on a blind date with Joyce Ann Taylor. They were married on June 19, 1965 and enjoyed 54 years together. While living in Fairfax, OK, Bob attended barber school and then began his 38-year barbering career in Pawhuska. During this time, he also worked for the USPS as a rural mail carrier for 27 years. Bob also loved serving at First Baptist Church and helping in his community.
Bob was an avid sports fan and especially loved his Pawhuska Huskies. He spent many years enjoying helping with the radio broadcasts for football and basketball. Later he spent his time watching his grandchildren play softball, baseball, and football and attended many band concerts and other school activities.
Bob is survived by daughter Suzanne Stewart, her husband Gabe, and grandchildren Macy and Avery of Oklahoma City, OK and daughter Sarah Jolliff, her husband Brad, and grandchildren Molly, Kaitlin, and Nick of Cashion, OK. Brothers Bill Butts of Pryor, OK and Richard Butts of Travelers Rest, SC, as well as many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Joyce Butts, parents Dora and Elmer Butts, sister Kay Pollard and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2:00PM, at Pawhuska First Baptist Church. Greg Davis will officiate. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
