Vera Mae (Barnett) Carpenter

Pawhuska resident Vera Mae Carpenter, 95, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in the Hillcrest South Hospital, Tulsa, OK.

Vera was born December 24, 1926 in Woodward, OK, the daughter of Harry and Edna (Erwin) Barnett.  On December 21, 1947, she married Orvan Carpenter in Canadian, TX.  He preceded her in death September 5, 1970. 

Vera was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved to read books, crochet and sew many doilies, potholders afghans and quilts, which everyone fought over at Christmas.  Everywhere she went, she would collect rocks, seashells, old bottles or anything else that caught her eye.  She was a very well- respected woman of the community.  Vera raised a great bunch of kids – and several others.  She never knew who extra she would find in the house when she got up the next morning. 

Vera loved her cats.  She certainly loved her family and couldn’t wait for the next grandbaby to come along.

Surviving is her daughter Ladeana Snider and husband, Steve; sons Danny Carpenter and Tawnda Hopper, Harry Carpenter and wife, Janice, Sonny Carpenter and wife, Robin, Gary Carpenter, and daughter-in-law Pam Carpenter; Sisters Aileen Wasson and husband, Bob, Darlene Lewis, Jeannie Maupin and husband, Stimmel; 26 grandkids, 34 great grandkids; 4 great-great grandkids, with three more on the way.  Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Larry Carpenter; daughter Darla Carpenter Rasberry; brothers Owen Barnett, Wilber Barnett and Herbert Lee Barnett; brother-in-law Gene Lewis and daughter-in-law Sandra Carpenter.

Viewing will be held Friday, April 1, 10AM – 5PM, at the Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home.  Family will be present 3PM – 5PM.  Viewing will also be held Saturday, April 2, 10AM – Noon.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, 2:00PM, at the Pawhuska City Cemetery.  Rev. Justin Turney will officiate.  Interment will follow.
